New To Cowles
We thank the Des Moines Public School District for showing great support of Cowles, the only public Montessori in the state of Iowa. Cowles is unique with Montessori learning methods used within the classroom while aligning with the Des Moines Public School essential curriculum for each grade level.
Kindergarten and above
Tuition is free as Cowles is a public school.
School Hours
8:30 am – 3:15 pm Every Wednesday is early dismissal at 1:45
The building is open at 8:15 am during the school week.
Cowles follows the Des Moines Public School Calendar for holidays, breaks, and early dismissal days.
Enrollment
Cowles is considered a choice school, therefore students may open enroll from all school districts. If you would like to be considered for admission to Cowles, please fill out our on-line application and e-mail it to nancy.virden@dmschools.org or mail it to us at: Cowles School 6401 College Avenue Windsor Heights, IA 52304.
Once you have submitted your application you will be placed on our waiting list. Calls will be made to fill openings for the upcoming school year based on the waiting list. For 2012-2013 we will only be accepting 3 and 4 year olds from our waiting list. All students who will be attending 2012-2013 have been notified.
Priority is given to siblings of currently enrolled students, children of staff members, and then children who have been on the waiting list the longest.
Before/After School Care
Pre-K students- 3 and 4 year olds
Pax Place- Tuition information pending board approval.
Kindergarten through Eighth Grade-

Classrooms are multi-age
Pre-K- Ages 3, 4, 5;
Lower- 1st-3rd grade
Upper- 4th-6th grade
